River Fest 2022
LA is known for hosting internationally-recognized film festivals–but what about a film festival celebrating the LA River?
FoLAR and our partners invite you to a free evening of LA River fun and films at River Fest 2022, celebrating FoLAR’s work and the LA River’s deep connection to art, environmental justice, community health, and climate adaptation.
This open-air festival will be hosted at the scenic LA State Historic Park, bringing together:
- The best of LA’s food truck scene
- Environmental films (on a 45-foot screen!)
- Booths and activations from FoLAR and our partners
- A live DJ
- Exclusive debut of our Frogtown Brewery x FoLAR Beer
- A VIP area
- FoLAR’s River Rover – our 38ft mobile visitor and education center
- & more!
The selection of short films playing at River Fest will highlight the River’s deep connection to art, environmental justice, and community health.
Attendees will have an opportunity to participate in multiple River Fest raffles, which will feature items from simplehuman, REI and Patagonia, a kayak, and exclusive FoLAR swag. Three raffle winners will also receive a 3-month supply of Topo Chico*!
You’ll even have a chance to commemorate the night with our green carpet and photo booth, because what’s a film festival without a green carpet?
We invite you to pull up a blanket, grab a bite to eat, and enjoy the summer twilight with a live DJ and activities.
Schedule*
5pm – 7:15pm: DJ, food trucks, welcome from FoLAR, land acknowledgement from Gabrieleño-Kizh, raffles, FoLAR and partner booths, activations, giveaways and sustainability information, and education opportunities at FoLAR’s River Rover.
7:15pm – 9:15pm: Collection of films on the big screen featuring films that highlight the LA River’s connection to art, environmental justice, community health, and climate resilience, final raffle, and closing remarks.
VIP Tickets
River Fest is a free open-air festival for the community. But by purchasing one of our limited number of VIP tickets, you will have access to exclusive event perks including VIP parking, VIP check-in and the River Fest VIP area with seats and tables. VIP attendees who are 21 and older will also receive a River Fest VIP bag. FoLAR members are eligible for a 10% discount on VIP tickets.

Slay the waste away with FoLAR!
Show off your creative side by sporting some zero waste fashion-wear to the event. The first 100 River Fest attendees to arrive in zero-waste fashion will receive exclusive FoLAR prizes.

Why River Fest
FoLAR is committed to the vision of a vibrant, equitable LA River. And it’s essential that we celebrate our accomplishments in a way that reflects these values. That’s why we decided to replace our annual fall gala with a community event that is more equitably accessible: River Fest.
River Fest will showcase the nexus of nature, health, climate change, art, and the LA River. We will do this by sharing stories of environmental justice, community leadership, challenges faced by the River, and Indigenous perspectives on nature and the River.
