Spring is in the air and April is all about celebrating nature and our planet. There are so many volunteer opportunities this month that are all about cleaning up and preserving the environment and celebrating the spirit of the season: new beginnings.

April Volunteer Opportunities
ICAN Garden Volunteer Day
Date: April 11, 2026, 9:30 AM – 12:30 PM
Location: 2375 Sepulveda Blvd. Torrance CA 90501
In preparation for their upcoming Garden Party, ICAN is looking for volunteers to help bring new life to their garden. Tasks will include weeding, planting flowers, and sprucing up the space. Whether youāre an experienced gardener or just eager to help, thereās a task for everyone. Lunch is provided.

Springfest Redondo ā Event Volunteers Needed
Date: April 16 -19, 2026
Location: Redondo Beach Performing Arts Center
Help make the NRBBAās Springfest 2025 a success! Volunteers receive a free t-shirt and a drink ticket. Opportunities, which are available for all ages (13+), range from ticket and raffle sales to drink servers and bike valet.

King Harbor and Pier CleanUp Day
Date: April 19, 2026, 8am-Noon
Location: King Harbor and Redondo Beach Pier area
Join this community cleanup to help keep the coastline pristine. Spend the morning with friends and neighbors removing debris and litter from the beach.

April is Earth Month so letās celebrate by helping our local environment. Join SBPC for volunteer days across the South Bay:
Hopkins Wilderness Park – Tuesday mornings and Sundays
Esplanade Bluffs – Wednesday afternoons and Saturday mornings
Madrona Marsh Nursery – Thursday mornings
Alondra Park – once a month Fridays
Hermosa Greenbelt – Saturday mornings
Seaside Heroes Park – 2nd Saturday of the month

South Bay Parkland Conservancy Earth Day 2026
Date: April 18, 2026
Location: Hopkins Wilderness Park
In addition to volunteer opportunities all month long, the SBPC is also hosting a community event at Hopkins Wilderness Park to celebrate Earth Day. Participants can get involved in restoration, enjoy crafts and activities, an educational seminar, a nature walk and more. Volunteers are needed to help run the event.

Family-Friendly Earth Day Beach Cleanup
Date: April 19, 2026, 10am-12pm
Location: Hermosa Beach
Blume Behavioral Health and R&R Health invites everyone to join in for a community beach clean up in Hermosa Beach. Theyāll be gathering on the sand in front of Scottyās on the Strand, just south of the Hermosa Beach Pier for a morning of community connection and giving back to our coastline. All are welcome. Families, kids, colleagues, and friends encouraged. Weāre also excited to have local professionals and community partners joining us. Snacks and water provided. Look for the R&R Health tent and Blume Behavioral Health table on the beach.

Culture Club South Bay
Date: April 25, 2026 8am – 1pm
Location: Manhattan Beach
āāVolunteer with CCSB to help kids build confidence and support youth in knowing they belong at the beach too. For many of the kids they serve, this is their first time in the ocean! As a volunteer you can support surf and beach volleyball activities, be a mentor, provide a steady presence and be part of something rooted in community, culture, and connection.

Richstone Family Centers provides critical support services to children and families across the South Bay. Volunteers help with food distribution programs and youth enrichment activities.

Roundhouse Aquarium Teaching Center Volunteer Program
The Roundhouse Aquarium Teaching Center offers a hands-on opportunity for volunteers who are passionate about marine life and environmental education.
Interpretive volunteers engage with visitors, teach guests about Southern California marine ecosystems, and help create an interactive learning experience for people of all ages. Minimum Volunteer Age: 13

Beach Cities Health District Errand Volunteer Program
Beach Cities Health District offers an ongoing volunteer opportunity focused on helping older adults and individuals with disabilities maintain independence.
Volunteers assist with errands and transportation to essential appointments and services.

Friends of Madrona Marsh Habitat Restoration
Volunteers support habitat restoration by removing non-native plants, clearing vegetation, and planting native species to improve conditions for local wildlife such as birds, butterflies, and pollinators. Events take place on select Saturdays from 8:45 a.m. to 12 p.m. All tools are provided, but volunteers should come prepared to work outdoors. Activities may be canceled due to bad weather. Open to ages 10 and up.

ICAN California Abilities Network
As an ICAN volunteer, youāll spnd time as a companion and an advocate for adults with developmental and intellectual disabilities. Volunteer opportunities include supporting clients with engaging day clubs, job prep, and joining recreational outings and overnight camps. You can also assist with decor, setup and running events. Join on your own or as a group on weekdays, evenings, or weekends at one of their sites in Redondo Beach, Torrance or Long Beach. Volunteering at ICAN is completely free to you, and no experience is required. They will provide you with comprehensive training.

NAMI HelpLine Volunteer
Volunteers on the National Alliance on Mental Illness (NAMI) HelpLine become a vital part of a personās mental health journey. Volunteers serving on the NAMI HelpLine are well-trained, equipped with tools, and supported by NAMI HelpLine Staff. Volunteering from home, using your computer, you will answer calls and texts from people reaching out for help and provide them with mental health information, resources, and emotional support.

Food Forward Farmers Market Recovery Volunteer
Help reduce food waste by collecting leftover food from local farmers markets, like the Torrance Saturday and Tuesday markets. Glean Team Leaders (GTLs) are trained volunteers who collect fresh, surplus produce at farmers market āgleaningā events across Los Angeles. Volunteers distribute empty boxes to participating vendors, collect the food donations at the end of the market, weigh and record the donations, and prepare the boxes for pick-up by one of Food Forwardās partner hunger relief organizations.

Los Angeles Regional Food Bank Outdoors Distribution
Volunteers are needed to help maintain crowd control and distribute food boxes to older adultsĀ in need at monthly food distribution events held at the Carson Senior Center. Volunteers must be at least 18 and be able to bend and lift up to 30 pounds

Community Events Supporting Local Causes
Another way to make a difference is by attending community events that raise funds for local nonprofits and programs.
Camp Pendelton and Fort MacArthur Collection
Date: April 11, 2026, 9am-12pm
Location: Hathorne High School, 4859 El Segundo Blvd. Hawthorne, CA 90250
Camp Pendleton is home to over 70,000 Marines and 10,000 children under 5. Many of these young families lack essentials for newborns and small children, plus furnishings for their housing. The Rotary Clubs of District 5280 are collecting new and gently used items to supply Camp Pendletonās āWarrior Warehouseā and Fort MacArthurās āAirmanās Atticā, which is filled with donated items that are free for local military families.

Baby & childrenās clothes
Books, bathtubs, strollers, cribs
Dishes, cookware, meal prep

Gift cards ($25) to Target/Walmart

Sandpipers 34th Annual Fashion Show and Luncheon
Date: April 18, 2026
Location: Fairmont Century Plaza Hotel
The Sandpipers’ celebrated annual event is not just a fashion show, but a day out to shop, enjoy lunch and view a New York-style runway show featuring top designers. The event also features more than 25 local vendors with one of a kind fine jewelry, unique clothing and handbags, and beautiful home decor. The best part is, all of it goes to fund Sandpiper philanthropic endeavors.

A Fistful of Dollars for a Cause
Date: April 18, 2026
Location: The Empty Saddle Club, 39 Empty Saddle Road, Rolling Hills Estates
Las Candalistas 2026 fundraiser is inspired by Spaghetti Westerns. Youāll enjoy an evening of live music, comedy and delicious dining to fit the theme. In addition to your ticket price, you can also help support Las Candalistas with a bid in the silent auction.

3rd Annual Waterfront Ultra
Date: April 25, 2026
Location: Project Barley Waterfront
Inspired by the world famous Backyard Ultra Championships created by Lazarus Lake, every hour on the hour, racers take the starting line and run 4.167 miles. The race continues every hour until only one athlete remains. The Project Barley Waterfront side will be open to the public all day, so even if youāre not racing, you can join in the fun and cheer on the racers while enjoying live music and good food. All proceeds benefit Cancer Support Community South Bay.
