Tell us about your company:
“The Art Box Academy officially launched spring/summer 2020 knowing children still needed access to creative and innovative hands-on art lessons and projects as school and learning modalities dramatically changed due to the pandemic. As its sister company Art To Grow On Children’s Art Center placed it’s on-campus art enrichment programs on hold, The Art Box Academy was born! The Art Box Academy offers Signature and Specialty Art Boxes, Lesson Bundles, Jumbo Architecture Boxes, and Fairy Boxes for students ages preschool – 6th grade. All are customized, portioned, packaged and delivered to your doorstep with lessons inspired by The Great Master Artists and Architects!
We not only help parents by keeping their kiddos busy and engaged but our Boxes and Bundles are educational and offer continuous opportunities for children to reach Developmental Milestones. All supplies are included (zero shopping and prep yeah!) in addition to providing a much needed break from the screen. Lessons are inspired by Frank Lloyd Wright, Andy Warhol, Monet, and more.
One of my favorite lessons is How to Create a Blueprint! So much fun with a protractor, ruler, artist pencil and eraser, blue print newsprint paper, and a specialized stencil. Instructional Art Cards are included in all lessons for parents and or teachers so presenting lessons are ready, set, go!”
What inspired you to launch this business?
“We saw the opportunity to continue to provide hands-on 3-three dimensional learning as virtual learning and hybrid modalites replaced daily onsite classroom models due the pandemic. It is crucial that students continue to be involved in the creative process strengthening critical thinking, developing fine motor skills and enhancing optimal thinking. I was also inspired to launch this business because I know how much joy art can bring.”
What is one of your proudest moments?
“My two boys! So proud of them as one is now a freshman in high school and my oldest is a senior in high school. They are kind, caring, and amazing human beings. From golf to skate boarding to going on our traditional “trail walks” I truly am blessed and learn from them every single day.”
What can one expect when ordering an Art Box?
“Each Art Box contains a master lesson inspired by a great Master Artist or Architect plus five additional activities. All lessons and activities are individually customized, portioned and packaged with all the supplies you need and easy-to-understand directions for hours of engagement and fun!“
Tell us a little about you:
“I grew up in the South Bay and have been living here since I was three years old! I attended Alta Vista Elementary School from kindergarten – 4th grade and then when my family moved, I attended Riviera, Newton Middle School (now Richardson) and South High!
I attended UC Santa Barbara receiving a B.A. in Fine Art then received another degree in Textile Design from Otis Art Institute Parsons School of Design. I have always loved color and fabrics! I then moved to the Bay Area as I was hired as a textile designer for a women’s clothing company. I was extremely involved in management and sales in the fashion industry working for amazing designers such as Gucci and Armani. After 10 years, I moved back to the South Bay in 2000 and saw there were very few creative outlets for children and opened my business, Art To Grow On Children’s Art Center. We have worked with dozens and dozens of schools and clients the last 20 years from MBUSD to RBUSD, to American Martyrs, First Lutheran, City of Manhattan Beach, City of Hermosa Beach, Sony Pictures Bright Horizons and Terranea Resort.”
What do you enjoy doing in the South Bay when you are not working?
“I am definitely a beach gal as they say. Walking, running, with the boys..anything near the ocean. I also love walking or running on trails with our sweet golden retriever Bodie! I am so fortunate that my mother lives in the South Bay and we love spending time with her too! I have incredible family friends here, some that I have known almost my entire life. I also have several very close girl friends that are here too which even makes living here that much better.”
How do you give back to the community?
“Our South Bay community is truly extraordinary. We are so grateful to so many families, schools, clients and organizations. We have partnerships with many of the school districts and education foundations and work closely with Children’s Hospital Los Angeles for our Holiday Art Box Campaign. Giving back is why the South Bay is so special. We must continue to lift each other up!”
