Carol Mintz, The Matriarch of Children’s Orchard in Manhattan Beach, is Ready to Retire
Children’s Orchard is the Children’s Resale Store in the hearth of Manhattan Beach on Sepulveda. It looks like an old Victorian House with lots of strollers parked out front. The store has served local families for over 20 years. Cherished by parents, grandparents, aunts and uncles with only the highest quality “gently loved” resale items.
Carol and daughter Cindy, owned the National Franchise for 10 years and now at 74 years old, Carol is ready to retire, move down to Carlsbad, and relax by the pool.
In 1967 a beautiful and ambitious young woman came from Philadelphia to visit her brother, and stayed. Like many women in that era she became a nurse but, she wanted more. She quit her job, got married and started a family, like many women did during this time period.
In 1982, when her marriage ended, broke and with two kids, she went to night school and took a secretarial job at Valley Magazine. She was mentored by her fabulous boss and then promoted to the Advertising Department.
She quickly realized her amazing ability to ‘sell a bridge to nowhere’ to anyone. So from there, she went to The Daily News, becoming a Manager within a year, one of three in the entire company. She then continued her career at the Long Beach Press Telegram as a Manager and eventually became the only woman Vice-President in Los Angeles. Then she went to La Opinion until 2008, when she saw a huge decline in Newspapers and decided to semi-retire to spend time with her new Grandchildren.
But then she was BORED! She had a 401k she could access and asked her daughters to find a business. Children’s Orchard in Manhattan Beach seemed like the perfect fit because they all shopped there weekly and grew very fond of the little boutique shop in the heart of Manhattan Beach, Ca!
The community has embraced the former VP as their “go-to” for anything their kids needed, from clothing and bouncy seats to strollers and tap shoes. The store received many awards and accolades from the community.
Being that Children’s Orchard is a Franchise, she has listed the store “For Sale” on BUZBUYSELL.com. She would love one of her customers to buy it and carry on the tradition, just as she and her daughters were also customers before they bought.
Carol & Cindy will be missed once the store is sold, but excited for what the future holds.
