Digital Apps for Organizing

Let me ask you two questions: Are you the type of person who steers away from paper and pencil and finds that apps are a better way to be more productive?  And, do you have trouble remembering everything that needs to be done?

Here are some To-Do List apps that let you create, rearrange, edit and share your to-do list with just a click.  What are your favorites?  Let us know in the comments!

TODOIST
Cost: Free/Premium options
Devices: IOS/Android

Do you have several devices and need an app that will allow you to switch from IOS to Android to the web? This one lets you create and group tasks, set a deadline and make it a priority. The advanced features offer custom labels, location-based reminders, and templates for recurring projects. This is a good one if you need to collaborate with other team members. Best of all it lets you “tick” off the task, almost as good as scratching it off!

GOOGLE KEEP
Cost: Free/included with a Google Account
Devices: IOS/Android

For those who already like Google Apps this is notepad that is connected to your Google Drive. It is fairly easy to use, without a lot advanced features. Changes you make automatically appear on all connected devices, including your desktop.

EVERNOTE
Cost: Free/Premium options
Devices: IOS/Android

This one has several options, from simple to more complex. Great for note taking when you want to add voice memos, photos and word documents to your list. It works immediately across all devices and lets you work offline.

CLEAR TODOS
Cost: $5
Devices: IOS only

This one boasts a simple, clear and elegant style for those who prefer uncomplicated and clutter free. Color themes let you differentiate between lists.

IKE
Cost: Free/$2 upgrade
Devices: Android only

This is a lighthearted app based on former president Dwight “Ike” Eisenhower’s organizational style making the most urgent tasks as a priority. You can attach images to tasks to help make something like getting up early a bit more enjoyable!

ANYDO
Cost: Free/Premium options
Devices: IOS/Android

Don’t have a personal assistant? Let this app become your “life manager”. With the “moment” feature, daily reminders make it hard to forget what you need to do. You can organize by the date or by category, and use the drag-and-drop or swiping features to keep everything clean and neat and in one place.

REMEMBER THE MILK
Cost: Free/Premium options
Devices: IOS/Android

Fast and easy with a “smart bar” that lets you add notes as you enter your task. Get reminded by email, text, IM, Twitter, etc. Are you into color? This app allows you to tag in color and add sub-tasks to your task. Share your list with others for better time management and delegation. Asking your partner to “pick up some milk” is only a click away.

CARROT
Cost: Free/Premium options
Devices: IOS only

If you are a procrastinator this is the one for you and it has a personality! Extremely easy and it follows a traditional paper type to-do list. This is the app that pushes you to complete tasks and rewards you at the same time. If you don’t mind “tough-love” this might just be the one for you.

TOODLEDO
Cost: Free/Premium options
Devices: IOS/Android

Remember back in school when you had to create an outline? This app takes you right back there by organizing your tasks in the same way. Your projects are all on one page in outline style so you can see everything at once.

WUNDERLIST
Cost: Free/Premium options
Devices: IOS/Android

For the person who needs to collaborate and share their tasks with others! Put others to work simply by assigning them tasks from the app. Set notifications and assign due dates.  One of the best features is that you can forward an email to Wanderlust and it automatically turns it into a task for you!

TRELLO
Cost: Free
Devices: IOS/Android

Trello is a great tool to manage your projects. It uses boards, lists and cards to make collaboration easy and, maybe even fun!

HABITICA
Cost: Free
Devices: IOS/Android

A completely different type of to-do list using “gaming” to complete your tasks. Create a character and begin to knock off those projects. Feeling lazy and not in the mood to complete a task? Beware of the “avatar” waiting to get you! This app offers fun, but a little more complication too.

TO: DAY
Cost: Free
Devices: IOS only

A little bit different, this app is strictly for planning events . With a simple to-do list and day counter it helps you stay on task for tracking important events. Don’t stress out by letting that special day arrive before you are ready!

All of these apps have their own specialized functions, making them special, just like you. Hopefully this has helped take away the leg work, and you can be on your way to finding the one that works best for you. And when you have, check it off your list!  And if you are a pen and paper kind of person, check out my recent post on “Using a TO-DO List for Better Productivity.”
