Community Spotlight: Peters & Love Senior Care Consulting
Tell us about Peters & Love.
Peters & Love provides senior care consulting and ongoing care management for families in the greater LA area. I started the company with my colleague in 2012 after seeing how overwhelmed adult children were as they were trying to navigate senior care options for their parents. So many families didn’t have the time, interest, or resources to sift through all the options for care to find the best solutions.
After spending a few years doing sales and marketing for a retirement community, my coworker and I decided to shift to working for families directly to advocate for them, without any conflict of interest. So, I obtained my master’s in gerontology and RCFE license to run retirement communities before launching Peters & Love.
What inspired you to launch this business?
As a teenager, I remember watching my parents help my grandparents with a variety of care issues, and my parents’ different cultural backgrounds led their families to make different decisions for care. I developed an understanding of how complex, unique, and emotional it can be to determine a plan of care and get everyone to agree on it. I realized that families didn’t always have a good understanding of their loved one’s care needs and how best to meet those needs.
Years later, my coworker and I decided to start a company that would provide peace of mind to families by providing comprehensive education, compassionate advocacy, and unbiased guidance. Thanks to my husband’s unwavering support, incredible mentors, and wonderful colleagues, this company is now ten years old and serving more families than ever before.
What is one of your proudest moments?
One of my proudest moments was holding my infant son in my arms as I graduated with my master’s in gerontology. It was reminiscent of another graduation day four years earlier, when my husband and I graduated with MBAs and walked across the stage hand-in-hand. I hope my kids also develop a love of learning that propels them to make a positive impact in the world, throughout all stages of life. Life is full when our hearts are full and we are able to do purposeful work.
What can one expect when hiring Peters & Love?
Since every family situation is different, the services I provide vary for each client. I start with a complimentary consultation to get an understanding of the needs and how I can help. I work hard to provide information and guidance in a way that empowers families to make good decisions, adjust as needs change, and be proactive instead of reactive. Whether working with clients for a few weeks or an ongoing basis, I always consider it a privilege to work with families during such tender and uncertain times. I strive to use both my head and my heart to serve my clients and make senior care a little less overwhelming.
Tell us a little more about you.
I’ve called the South Bay home since 2008. My husband and I have been married for almost 20 years, and we have two young kids who bring joy to our lives and chaos to our home! One silver lining of the pandemic was that we’ve developed deep friendships with our neighbors. We now have a tradition of “Friday night party,” where we order takeout and catch up on life while the kids play around us. It’s simple and just how I like it.
We love to travel, but when we’re in town, we love to go for beach walks, go out to restaurants, cheer our kids on in sports and dance, and enjoy all the amazing activities here in the South Bay and beyond. I’m grateful to be part of such a wonderful community.
How do you give back to the community?
I love opportunities to connect with others in the community. I am involved in the MOPS & MOMSnext ministry at my church, am on the leadership team for The Senior Specialists Group (part of the Foundation for Senior Services), and facilitate a new caregiver support group at Sunrise at Palos Verdes – which is open to everyone in the South Bay.
I’m passionate about helping families and am always happy to offer complimentary educational seminars to empower and encourage families. I also support the Alzheimer’s Association, the Foundation for Senior Services, and ongoing university research into cognitive screening – as these organizations provide valuable resources for families impacted by Alzheimer’s Disease and other age-related challenges.
