Light Gate Sunset
Twice a year, the sun sets perfectly within the keyhole of Light Gate, the glass public artwork at the top of 14th Street between Manhattan Beach City Hall and the Manhattan Beach Library. On November 14, 2026, locals and photographers gather along Highland Avenue to watch the sunset align with the artwork and frame the view down 14th Street to the ocean. It is a free and simple seasonal tradition that is fun for all ages.
Good to know: The artwork is made of glass laminated with prismatic lighting film, creating colorful light effects as the sun goes down. Sunset is expected around 4:50pm on November 14, so arrive early for a good spot. The alignment happens again on January 27, 2027, with sunset around 5:20pm.
