“Built on Passion” LA Kings Alum Jason Allison Brings Boating Culture to Anaheim in 2026
From LA Kings Ice to South Bay Coastline
When Jason Allison was traded to the Los Angeles Kings, he did not know what to expect from life in Los Angeles. Coming from the East Coast and Canada, his experience had always included cold winters, snow covered streets, and a very different pace of life. That quickly changed the moment he discovered the South Bay. “Walking around Manhattan Beach after the trade, I remember thinking I might not want to live anywhere else,” Allison shared. “I enjoyed playing on the East Coast, but in the middle of February, it is a lot different leaving the rink and stepping into snow.”

A Life Long Connection to the Water
Long before his time in Los Angeles, boating was already part of Allison’s story. Growing up in the Toronto area, he purchased his first cottage at just 19 and spent years surrounded by life on the water. “We have always had boats around,” he explained. “I even lived on an island for a while where boating was really the only way to get around. It has always been a part of my life.”
That connection stayed with him long after his hockey career. After retiring at 31, Allison found himself searching for something that would bring the same level of passion and purpose. “You realize pretty quickly you need something you are passionate about, something that keeps you engaged,” he said.
Building Something New After Hockey
Today, Allison has taken that passion and turned it into something much bigger as co founder of the California International Boat Show. Partnering with Spark and Sway, he is helping create an experience that reflects both his personal journey and the lifestyle he embraced in the South Bay. Now based in Rancho Palos Verdes, he remains deeply connected to the coastal community that first inspired him.

“Something for Everyone” at the 2026 California International Boat Show
The California International Boat Show returns April 9 through April 12, 2026 at the Anaheim Convention Center, bringing together boating, outdoor adventure, and coastal living in one place. “There will be a wide range of boats on display, everything from fishing and wake boats to performance boats and yachts,” Allison shared. “The idea is really to have something for everyone, whether you are experienced on the water or just getting into it.”
Attendees can explore top brands including Bennington, Cutwater, Bayliner, Yamaha, and more, along with lifestyle and outdoor companies like Awake Boards, POP Boards, and Bert’s Mega Mall. It is an opportunity to meet experts, discover new products, and get inspired for future adventures.
A Family Friendly Event with a South Bay Spirit
In addition to boats and gear, the event brings a fun and approachable energy that reflects Allison’s vision. Families can enjoy unique experiences, including a special appearance by Twiggy the water skiing squirrel. “His name is Twiggy,” Allison said with a laugh, reinforcing that the show is designed to be welcoming and memorable for all ages.
