Tell us about allcove Beach Cities.
allcove Beach Cities is a space for youth to find community, support, advice or even just a moment of pause. allcove centers are places for youth to access a range of emotional, physical and social support services—on their own terms. allcove centers are designed with, by and for youth, with the wisdom that we all just need a moment to reset before we can move forward.
Our approach is anchored in a model that focuses on meeting the evolving and unique needs of young people and those who support them. Each center uses this integrated approach with room to reflect the specific needs of local youth and community. allcove Beach Cities is a safe place for youth that reduces stigma, embraces mental wellness and increases community connection.
Please tell us more about your project and who you are supporting with allcove Beach Cities.
allcove Beach Cities welcomes young people ages 12 to 25 with mild to moderate needs looking for support. Young people can get the support, treatment and tools they might need to take care of their mental health from professionals at our center, which was designed to create meaningful, positive experiences for every young person who comes through our doors. What inspired you to start this program?
The allcove model was created by Stanford University’s Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences’ Center for Youth Mental Health and Wellbeing. Based on an international model of integrated youth mental health, allcove provides a one-stop shop for young people ages 12-25 to access mental health services, resources and support for friends, family and the larger community.
Locally, we know our youth are struggling. The 2022 California Healthy Kids Survey found that 18% of Beach Cities 11th graders reported considering suicide in the past 12 months. Establishing allcove Beach Cities is an important step toward helping young people in our community.
How can the community support Allcove Beach Cities?
The community can support allcove Beach Cities by letting young people ages 12-25 in their life know that allcove exists. The centerpiece of the allcove center is “the cove,” a common area where young people can hang out with friends, participate in wellness activities, arts and crafts, games, movie nights, open mic nights, meditation and more.

“all:” Communicates inclusivity and togetherness – our spaces are for all young people, no matter what emotions you are feeling; and “cove:” A space surrounded by protection – a metaphor for the safe but open space that allcove provides to all.
