Community Spotlight: Creamy Boys Ice Cream
Creamy Boys Ice Cream just opened its first permanent location in Hermosa Beach with a mission to bring one of the best things about New Zealand to the United States: Real Fruit Ice Cream. This popular style of ice cream is a simple recipe made with a blend of frozen fruits and a dairy or non-dairy ice cream, which creates a creamy, refreshing, and delicious soft-serve ice cream.

Community Spotlight: Creamy Boys Ice Cream
Tell us about Creamy Boys Ice Cream.
Creamy Boys started in 2020, when I moved to Los Angeles after finishing college.
What inspired you to launch Creamy Boys Ice Cream?
It sounded like fun — who wouldn’t want to be an ice cream man! I knew I wanted to have a business of my own, and at the same time, I was missing this special type of ice cream that I grew up with in New Zealand. I figured hey, maybe I can share my favorite ice cream with America!
During college, I never would have thought that I would start an ice cream company, but when I moved out here, I thought: you know what, why not give it a go at least for one summer and see what happens.
It was a lot more work than I expected, even just to build the truck, get it permitted and find places to sell ice cream. But the product and brand got a really good reception and I had so much fun along the way and learned a lot. So I thought, you know what, I’m gonna keep doing this and see how far I can take it. Now I’m really excited to have this new store in Hermosa Beach.
What is one of your proudest moments?
It is when a customer tells me that it is some of the best ice cream they’ve ever tasted. To think that all of the work in the last four years that has led to the business now being able to serve customers and achieve that goal of sharing traditional, New Zealand Ice Cream here in the South Bay and in Los Angeles, and that people really love it, gets me stoked!
What can one expect when visiting your shop?
Friendly staff, fun branding, and a delicious, simple menu of ice cream that is true to the New Zealand style.
Tell us a little about you.
I was born and grew up in Hawkes Bay, New Zealand. I studied at Duke University for my undergraduate degree, and then moved out west. I’ve lived in Venice Beach since I arrived four years ago.
Do you give back to the community?
In March we will be giving one dollar for every strawberry ice cream sold to the children’s Hospital of Los Angeles as part of #MakeMarchMatter!
Beyond that, I started the company by building an ice cream trailer and we love taking that trailer to local community events such as Fiesta Hermosa, the Redondo 5/10 km Super Bowl run and Run for Myles in PV. We do fundraisers for local schools and other groups, where we give a percentage of sales back to the school, and we have done free ice cream for events at Skid Row, and Masters of Taste ā an event to raise money for a homeless, and other events benefiting charities such as the Childrens Hospital of Los Angeles. We are always looking for local community and charity event to get involved with so if you know of anything ā send them our way!
Anything else you would like us to share?
The biggest thing I can recommend is coming to try a strawberry ice cream in March! We will be donating one dollar per strawberry ice cream sold to the Children’s Hospital of Los Angeles and would love to give as big donation as possible for such a great cause. My sister suffers from cystic fibrosis so the money has been specifically earmarked for cystic fibrosis research and patient support.
