Lunar New Year at the L.A. Zoo

Sharing is caring!

The Los Angeles Zoo is thrilled to welcome members of our AAPI community and all Angelenos to enjoy a new and unique experience honoring the Lunar New Year (January 22) and the Year of the Rabbit.

Special Programming at the L.A. Zoo
(available with paid Zoo admission or GLAZA membership):
> Wall of Well Wishes (Saturdays and Sundays through January 22, 11 a.m.–3 p.m. in Treetops Terrace)—Share your hopes and dreams for the New Year by adding them to the Wall of Well Wishes. Volunteers will be on hand during designated hours to provide cards and pens.
> Zoo-diac Mask Making (Saturdays and Sundays through January 22, 11 a.m.–3 p.m. in Treetops Terrace)—The Chinese zodiac is made up of 12 animal signs. At this craft station, make a mask of your zodiac animal, which is based on your birth year.
> Red Lantern Photo Op (daily through January 22 in Treetops Terrace)—In Chinese culture, the color red symbolizes prosperity, luck, joy, and happiness. In honor of Lunar New Year, take the perfect photo here, among dozens of beautiful, red-hued Chinese lanterns.
> Zoo-diac Tour (daily through January 31, Zoo-wide)—Many animals of the 12-year Chinese zodiac can be found at the Zoo! View and take a photo of the Zoo-diac Tour map in the Zoo’s Entry Plaza to find them all during your visit.

Also, on Saturday, January 14 (available outside the Zoo’s gates for all to enjoy, with no Zoo admission required):
> Lunar New Year Day presented by the Los Angeles Department of Cultural Affairs and City Council District 4 (9–11 a.m.)—Enjoy free family activities in the Zoo’s parking lot. Learn about the origins of Lunar New Year, how it is celebrated, its many traditions, and what your zodiac animal says about you.
