Tell us about Movement Practice with Chelsea
Iām Chelsea Vick. Iāve been a dance teacher for fifteen years and a yoga teacher since 2020. Although I love teaching students of all ages, I created āMovement Practice with Chelseaā for adults because I believe movement is medicine. Through movement, we can stimulate our bodyās natural restorative gifts, heal our over-stressed nervous systems, support our digestive fire, and tap into our natural ability to detox.Ā I offer weekly dance and yoga classes in various studios, private yoga lessons at your location, and customized events.Ā Ā
What inspired you to launch Movement Practice with Chelsea?
Despite an active and āhealthyā childhood, I struggled with autoimmune issues through most of my teens and 20s. My experiences with traditional western medicine left me frustrated and stuck. It was the wisdom of yoga that gave me the lens that allowed me to see a wider picture, a more holistic view of myself.Ā I then designed and implemented my own intentional movement practice that unlocked a level of “feeling good in my own skin” that I had previously doubted was ever possible for me.
The other piece of my business is dance – I love teaching dance! The big question for me has always been, why is it that as soon as we become adults we stop doing things for recreation? I generally have about 100 students in a season at the youth dance studio where I teach. Truth be told, only about three of those students want to pursue a professional dance career. Does that mean that the majority should have to give up something they love as soon as they turn 18 just because they donāt want to turn it into a career?
The real joy in teaching dance for me has always been beyond dance technique. Iām passionate about self-esteem, self-expression, music, and community which is why I created STRUT. STRUT is an experience inspired by women because we deserve to have a space to express and celebrate ourselves! These classes are designed for those who āused to danceā or for those whoāve always wanted to try. My choreography is there as a guide but leaves space for you to do your thing! My classroom is a community where we subscribe to the thought āIf Iām shining, everybody gonna shine.āĀ
What is one of your proudest moments?
Just one? I love when a busy mom tells me she was able to āget out of her headā during our yoga session. I love when clients tell me they were able to apply some yoga to their everyday life in between our sessions. I love when I see the sparkle of confidence in the eyes of the women who come to STRUT. I love when they feel beautiful for no one other than the person in the mirror.Ā
I am most proud to create experiences where people can dive into themselves and recharge!Ā
What can one expect when working with Movement Practice with Chelsea?
There are a few ways to work with me. I teach weekly drop-in dance and yoga classes, and one-time āpop-upā events at various studios around Los Angeles.Ā I also offer private, customized yoga lessons, and workplace/group wellness workshops. I am happy to come to your location and personalize a āmovement practiceā just for you or your group.
- ADULT DANCE CLASSES (all experience levels)
- GROUP AND PRIVATE YOGA LESSONS (offered at various studios or at YOUR LOCATION)
- EVENTS – Customized dance and yoga events for celebrations and workplace wellness
YOGA – When working with me at your location, all you will need is enough space for a yoga mat.Ā Expect a moment of mindful connection to your body, followed by dynamic movement, and closing out with a restorative stretch. Leave feeling stronger, more open, and rejuvenated.Ā Ā
I especially love creating personalized movement practice plans for my clients.Ā Taking a yoga class can be very beneficial but committing to a movement practice plan developed specifically for you can offer greater results.Ā I offer private yoga lessons at your location and will work with you to create a personalized plan based on your goals, experience, and body type. You can take one class with me, buy a package of classes or commit to a three-month movement practice plan.Ā
I developed a yoga workshop called āSOULFUL STRETCH.āĀ These classes are designed for all experience levels and are intended to be restorative and relaxing.Ā I focus on flexibility, alignment, and joint mobility.Ā I intentionally select music and structure playlists to tap into my studentsā emotions. I want my students to leave class feeling inspired, motivated, joyous, and relaxed.Ā These classes are offered weekly and as āpop-upā events.Ā Ā
DANCE – As I mentioned earlier, I am very proud of my STRUT classes.Ā They are often described as feeling more like a night out with friends than a dance class.Ā I create a welcoming and non-competitive environment where my students are encouraged to focus on their energy, love their bodies, be present in the moment, and most of all, have fun.Ā I specifically design my choreography to be accessible for all skill levels, so inexperienced dancers wonāt be intimidated and advanced dancers will still enjoy the class.Ā Ā
EVENTS – I will customize and help you plan a private event. Ā For example, my STRUT classes make unique and exciting birthday and bachelorette parties.Ā I can also customize my SOULFUL STRETCH class for workplace or group wellness sessions.Ā Events can be hosted at your location or I can help you find the perfect venue.Ā Ā
Tell us a little about you…
Iām originally from Detroit, Michigan but Iāve been in California for over a decade and it truly feels like home. Iām a music lover (making playlists for my classes is truly my favorite part of my job) and a constant student. Iām insatiably curious about all things artistic and holistic health!
How do you give back to the community?
My favorite way to volunteer is to plant trees with Tree People – an organization that advocates and works to support a sustainable urban ecosystem in the greater Los Angeles area.Ā Ā
Anything else you would like to share with our readers?
Itās often said that we are what we eat, but it goes much deeper than that.Ā We are what we watch, what we read, and what we listen to.Ā In other words, we are what we consume.Ā In today’s world, we are constantly bombarded with negativity, stress, and noise on a daily basis.Ā Whether itās with dance, yoga, or both, I want to help you escape the noise, be present in the moment, connect with your authentic self, love your body, and nurture your soul.
Check our website for current pop-up dance and yoga events, as well as any promotions.Ā Canāt make it to class? Canāt find one in your area? Contact me to schedule a customized class for your group in the location of your choice or I can help you find the perfect venue.Ā I offer free consultations.Ā Schedule a call with me on my website.
