The Torrance Bakery’s doors were first opened to the public on October 18, 1984, by the Rossberg family. They set out to provide the residents of South Bay with the freshest, most delectable cakes and pastries in town, despite having just 1200 square feet of space and 7 committed staff members. The residents of South Bay took a particular like to the bakery since, over time, the bakery developed into a city favorite and continued to expand in order to provide its clients with the greatest goods and services. With 78 staff, two locations totaling 14,000 square feet, a separate showroom for wedding cakes, and a sandwich shop, Torrance Bakery now provides services throughout the South Bay.
In 1950, creator Robert Taira of The King’s Hawaiian tradition launched his first bakery in Hilo, Hawaii. After experiencing years of success, Robert relocated his family’s business to Honolulu and established the first bakery-restaurant there, which quickly gained enormous popularity. Additionally, both locals and visitors were very interested in Robert’s distinctive Portuguese sweet bread. This was dubbed King’s Hawaiian Bread over time.

Out of the Long Beach location, our chef Jeff Paletz (also a native of Long Beach) has created a bread-centric cafe menu that emphasizes our fresh breads and also features vegetables from the farmer’s market in an open fast casual setting with a full view of the baking process.
