South Bay Giving Back: El Barrio Neighborhood Tacos

Today, we are shining a spotlight on El Barrio Neighborhood Tacos, who is giving back by preparing over 17,000 free meals to people in need in the South Bay.

Tell us a little about yourself?

“I (Joe Lin) grew up in West Torrance and moved back to Redondo Beach two and a half years ago with my wife and two boys (age 4 and 2). Both my wife and I work in software and we got into a restaurant project on the side, El Barrio Neighborhood Tacos,  that we opened last summer.”

Please tell us about your project. Describe what El Barrio is doing to support our community?

“When COVID first started affecting our community, we got involved locally to donate meals to our frontline workers, which we couldn’t have done without the support from our customers. We were able to donate over 1,00 meals during this challenging time through some of our own campaigns as well as David Bingham’s (LA Galaxy) campaigns. One thing led to another, we got connected by one of our regulars to another program, World Central Kitchen, and we were fortunate to have been selected to participate their efforts to help provide meals to those in need. Since May, our team have prepared more than 17,000 meals to those who are in need. My business partners and I are also giving back with our time by helping hand out these meals at the Compton site 4 days a week.”

How can the community support your efforts?

“Please donate to World Central Kitchen.”

WCK is working across America to safely distribute individually packaged, fresh meals in communities that need support – for children and families to pick up and take home, as well as delivery to seniors who cannot venture outside. WCK is now active in dozens of cities providing over 150,000 fresh meals every day.

Anything else you would like us to include?

“El Barrio Neighborhood Tacos is open 5 days a week for lunch and dinner. Come check us out :-)”
