Rotisserie chicken may be the headliner, but the menu at The Chicken Shack has grown into something much bigger. Alongside their perfectly seasoned birds, guests can dig into hearty sandwiches, soups, and salads, all crafted with the same fresh-ingredient philosophy.
In recent years, the kitchen has expanded to include beloved Peruvian classics. Lomo Saltado and Pollo Saltado have both earned devoted fans. The overall concept is Peruvian cuisine with a California twist and a fusion of international flavors, a combination that feels perfectly at home in the South Bay.
The Famous Chicken-Mobile
One of the most beloved pieces of The Chicken Shack’s personality is their famous Chicken-Mobile, a canary yellow 1973 car that has become something of a neighborhood landmark. The car appeared in Becky G’s music video for “Chicken Noodle Soup,” giving this Hermosa Beach staple a moment on the national stage. Spot it out front and you know you are in the right place.
A Community Pillar Facing a Crisis and How You Can Help
For nearly two decades, The Chicken Shack has been woven into the daily life of Hermosa Beach. Regulars have watched their kids grow up ordering from the same menu. Staff have built careers there. The restaurant has operated 365 days a year, through every challenge, with the same dedication to the people it serves.
Since February 9, that dedication has been tested in an extraordinary way. Construction on Aviation Blvd, directly in front of the restaurant, has made it extremely difficult for customers to reach The Chicken Shack. The project is expected to continue through the end of May. Streets nearby are closed or restricted, parking is blocked, and access is limited. Regulars who have supported this business for years are being turned away, not by choice, but simply because they cannot get there.
Inside, conditions are equally difficult. Construction dust settles into the space daily. The noise and air quality disruptions make normal operations a real challenge. And yet the bills have not stopped. Rent, payroll, utilities, and supplies continue to accumulate while revenue has dropped significantly.
This is where the community can step in. The Chicken Shack has spent 17 years showing up for Hermosa Beach. Now it is the community’s turn to show up for them.
