The Discoasis Coming to South Coast Botanic Gardens
This summer, South Coast Botanic Garden in Southern California will host a magical new in-person seasonal experience. Beginning July 16th and running through Labor Day weekend, the Discoasis Blooms limited-run experience will be open to the public. Through a fanciful explosion of good times, art, light, scents, tastes and disco skates! guests will come together in an aesthetic paradise of natural beauty and dance their way through a garden of pure rhythm and celebration.
Nile Rodgers, the renowned composer and guitarist who was inducted into the Rock And Roll Hall of Fame and Songwriters Hall of Fame, will be curating The DiscOasis’ Groovemaster ahead of its arrival at the South Coast Botanic Gardens. If anyone is the King of Disco, it’s Nile Rodgers, fueled by his classic songs Le Freak, Everybody Dance, He’s The Greatest Dancer, I Want Your Love, Dance, Dance, Dance (Yowsah, Yowsah, Yowsah), We Are Family, My Feet Keep Dancing, I’m Coming Out, Rapper’s Delight, Upside Down and Good Times.
When guests enter the Discoasis, they will immediately be welcomed by world-class performers dressed in dazzling costumes – dancers, roller skaters and DJs, who will bring the magic to life.
Nile Rodgers said, “The DiscOasis is a dream come true for me. People know and love to dance to my songs, what they may not know is that I’ve been a skater all my life and I love to roller disco! I can remember the first time I ever walked into a disco and saw people from every walk of life put their troubles, prejudices and differences aside in the name of love and dance. It was the perfect place and we look to create that same spirit at The DiscOasis.”

The DiscOasis is theater. The utopian space is the intersection of inspiration, innovation, and joy-filled movement; all enriched by the healing power of nature. Guests journey through a variety of environments, where they will be welcomed by mysterious sounds and transported into another world. The world guests enter asks the question, what would a garden watered by music look like?
Highlights of The DiscOasis will include:
- Roller Disco – Guests will experience the freedom and magic of roller skating, as they skate and dance along with professional roller skaters and performers styled in fabulous costumes and glitter, throughout the garden, and alongside them in the radiant Roller Disco.
- Bops, blooms, and disco balls – Imagine planting a garden by disco seeds, which burst into dancing flowers!
- Grow, Glow, and Groove Dance Flora – Revelers will express themselves on the oversized “bloom” box dance floor. Its lighting design will pulse to the rhythm’s groove, washing over the surrounding lush floral, as though music is giving life; bringing together healing, and the vital power of community.
The charity partner for The DiscOasis is the We Are Family Foundation, a not-for-profit organization co-founded by Nile Rodgers and dedicated to the vision of a global family by creating programs that promote cultural diversity while nurturing and mentoring the vision, talents and ideas of young people who are positively changing the world. The DiscOasis will feature a food and beverage area with a curated selection of local cuisines, paying tribute to the iconic snack bar foods found in many roller rinks. Guests who attend the Discoasis at the South Coast Botanic Gardens can enjoy charcuterie boards in designated picnic areas and a menu of mocktails and cocktails.
