Riviera Village Parklets Now Open

Riviera Village Parklets Now Open

The Riviera Village looks a little different today, as there are now “parklets” instead of parking spaces. Parklets are public seating platforms that convert curbside parking spaces into more community space.  This will add more outdoor space in Riviera Village easing some of the pain of the closures due to COVID-19 restrictions.  This benefits both consumers and local businesses. For consumers, it allows them to safely social distance while shopping or dining outside. For local businesses, it allows more people to enter, which helps boost commerce safely in The Village. Both restaurants and retail will be using these parklets. The parklets are are situated in sections of parking spots on Catalina Avenue.

The Riviera Village Association has subsidized the initial costs of these parklets in cooperation with The BeachLife Festival, and several small contributors. Beachlife Festival is installing parklet beautification in the forms of hand painted plywood facades and artificial grass. Catalina Avenue still remains open to motor vehicles.

Currently, Riviera Village is on phase 1 of the parklet program. Down below is a map where Riviera Village is planning on making parklets. Phase 1 was installing parklets on Catalina Ave between Vista Del Mar & Avenue. Starting mid-July, construction for phase 2 to begin which is installing parklets on  Catalina Ave between Vista Del Mar & S Elena.  And based on demand from local businesses around The Village, they might install more parklets later on.

For more information go to www.rivieravillage.net. Also, please remember to wear a face covering and maintain social distancing.
