Community Spotlight: Duff’s Cakemix
We’ve got a new neighbor in El Segundo and they are very sweet! Duff’s Cakemix has opened it’s first South Bay location in Plaza El Segundo. We’ve had a chance to check it out and create our own cupcakes… SO MUCH FUN!
We wanted to get to know more about Duff’s Cakemix, check out our interview below for this weeks’ Community Spotlight.
Tell us about your company?
“Duff’s Cakemix is a do-it-yourself cake decorating studio founded by Food Network star, Duff Goldman. We provide everything you need to bring your cake vision to life. Whether you follow one of our step-by-step guides or do your own thing, you get to focus on the most fun and creative part of cake-making – the decorating!
Customers select from an offering of pre-baked cakes and cupcakes, build their kits with colorful buttercream, fondant and goodies, and use the tools in our studio to make the ultimate cake masterpiece.
We believe there are artists in all of us and that cake decorating is an act of love, especially when done with or for others. The world wants to create, the world needs to create, and more than anything, the world needs cake. We’re here to help.”
What inspired you to launch this business?
“Pursuing his passion for inspiring creativity in others, Duff founded the first ever do-it-yourself cake and cupcake decorating studio in Los Angeles.
It’s all about empowering people to put their phones away, be creative, and actually spend some real quality time with other people. We can simplify our business into three words: create, celebrate, and share!”
What is one of your proudest moments?
“We frequently have parents come up and tell us how much their kids love coming to Duff’s Cakemix, how they look forward to it, and even how it brings them out of their shell. It’s hard to imagine something more rewarding than inspiring kids to be creative and helping them become more confident as a result.”
What can one expect when visiting your location?
“A modern, fresh space with super friendly staff and everything you could ever need to create an awesome looking cake.
We see our studios as a soul-nourishing escape from the hustle and bustle of modern life. It’s a space for spontaneous creative outings, birthday parties, team building activities, corporate events, and charity events.
Regardless of skill level, Team Duff is there to inspire the super hero cake decorator in all of us, à la the artists featured in Duff’s TV series, Ace of Cakes. Guests walk away with a delicious, one-of-a-kind creation to enjoy at home with family or friends, or to share as a personalized gift. When it comes to design, the sky is the limit – from pop culture inspired rainbow unicorns or holiday themes, to any special occasion, from bachelorette parties to graduations.
Team Duff can also bring the party offsite to private residences, offices or public spaces. Customers can walk in or make a reservation in advance, which is encouraged on weekends and holidays. In addition to serving as a venue for all kinds of celebrations, the studio hosts an on-going array of cake decorating classes, workshops and kids camps.”
Tell us a little about you:
“The company was founded by a group of long time Los Angeles natives along with Duff Goldman from the Food Network (Ace of Cakes, Kids Baking Championship, etc) and Richard Drapkin, a partner in Manhattan House.”
How do you give back to the community?
“We love connecting with schools and charitable organizations! We frequently donate experiences to schools and charities. Just ask!
