Mira Costa Drama/Tech Spring Musical: Bright Star

Original Broadway Set, Props and Select Costumes Take Center Stage for Award-Winning Program

Mira Costa High School’s award-winning Drama/Tech program is proud to announce its upcoming spring musical production of Bright Star, set to dazzle audiences from April 25 to May 3, 2025.
This Tony-nominated musical, written by and featuring the music of Steve Martin and Edie Brickell, promises to be a spectacular showcase of student talent. The production will feature:
• Over 60 talented Mira Costa students performing on stage, working behind the scenes, and playing in a live orchestra pit
• Original Broadway set, props, and select costumes, elevating the production to an exceptional theatrical experience
• A sweeping tale of love and redemption set against the backdrop of the American South in the 1920s and ’40s

Based on a true story, Bright Star focuses on literary editor Alice Murphy and her connection to a young soldier returning from World War II, who awakens her longing for the child she once lost. Haunted by their unique connection, Alice sets out on a journey to understand her past—and what she finds has the power to transform both of their lives. The beautiful melodies and powerfully moving characters create an uplifting theatrical journey that will captivate audiences of all ages.

Mira Costa High School’s Drama/Tech program, known for its comprehensive and award-winning productions, continues to provide students with real-world experience in large-scale, professional-caliber shows. The program has garnered multiple awards from prestigious competitions and festivals, cementing its reputation for excellence in high school theater.

Mira Costa Drama/Tech is fresh off their California Educational Theatre Association (CETA) award wins for their fall production, Anatomy of Gray, where they received a Superior rating for the second year in a row. In addition to the overall rating, the department received dozens of individual honors for the cast, crew and production team.
