Sea Change 5th Anniversary Celebration

Celebrate five years of collective action with Sea Change —starting with a beach cleanup & followed by a reception at a local brewery.

Five years ago, we came together to form Sea Change with a simple goal: make El Segundo a more welcoming place for all.

Since then, we’ve worked to keep the community informed, connected, and engaged. We’ve followed City Council and school board meetings closely, shared information about the decisions shaping life in El Segundo, and created educational and community-building opportunities through our Sea Social gatherings.

At the same time, we’ve pushed for meaningful change on issues ranging from housing and police reform to equity and representation in public life. Members of our team have worked with the school district to support more inclusive hiring practices, and we’ve called for City proclamations recognizing and celebrating underrepresented groups, helping pave the way for events like the Juneteenth Festival and Gundo Pride, along with broader commitments to diversity, equity, and inclusion in the City’s strategic planning and legislative priorities.

But none of this work — none of this progress — would have been possible without you. One thing we knew for sure when forming this organization is that we, by no means, were alone in how we felt. Through Sea Change we found one another. Together, we continue to build a community capable of turning shared values into meaningful action and real change in the city we all love. That collective effort is what we hope to celebrate with you on Sunday, April 19th.

The day will begin with a beach cleanup at El Segundo Beach (10:30 AM–12:00PM), inspired by longtime members Lindsay Pinkham and Nancy Johns, who have quietly cared for our shoreline and neighborhoods for years. How fitting that it happens to fall during Earth Week!

Afterward, we’ll gather at Sugar Monkey Brewing & Social Club (339 Indiana St., formerly Upshift Brewing) from 12:00 PM–2:00 PM for discounted food, drinks, and time together.
