Malibu Beaches & Parks
Families will enjoy hiking, biking and horseback riding on the trails that wind throughout this state park. There are also two waterfalls to explore as well! The park is open from sunrise until sunset so it’s perfect for all of those photo ops too!
Point Dume State Beach & Nature Reserve
The largest beach in Malibu has nearly two miles of sandy shoreline perfect for sunbathing, building sandcastles or playing games like Frisbee while watching those majestic waves roll by at dusk.
This reserve provides one of the best vantage points to see migrating whales right off the coast. The Point Dume Nature Reserve is open from sunrise to sunset and has plenty of parking for visitors!
If you’re looking for a picnic with your family then this park may be the perfect spot for you. There’s an abundance of grassy fields that are great for picnics, playing games or just relaxing on the lawn in between all those picturesque views! Open daily at sunrise until sunset; kids can play free while adults enjoy coffee and tea offered by Malibu Country Mart.
In the heart of Malibu, this park is perfect for an outing with the family. With a long stretch of sand that stretches from Point Dume to Zuma Beach, it’s just what you need! They offer picnic tables and BBQ grills as well so all you have to do is stop by on your way out-of-town. The kids will be happy they can play in the sand while you enjoy some peace and quiet at home.
If your kids want to feel like they’re on a tropical beach with the sand and waves, Paradise Cove Beach is where you need to be! There’s plenty of food options nearby so bring an appetite while you enjoy this perfect spot.
The only beach that offers camping in Malibu, El Matador Beach is perfect for families with older children. There’s a lifeguard on duty all day long and you can rent kayaks or paddleboards if you’re feeling adventurous!
This is the most popular beach in Malibu and it’s for a good reason. There are plenty of restaurants close by, lots to do with kids like tide pools or kayaking, and even sand volleyball courts!
This park offers a ton of different things to do. If you’re looking for some great hiking trails, the Elephant Rock Trail provides an amazing view! There are also tide pools and sand volleyball courts if your kids want something less strenuous
If you’re looking for more animal interaction than surfing or walking on a pier, Malibu Lagoon is perfect- there are tons of birds and other wildlife that live in this area. This one requires a little driving but it’s worth it because the views will be absolutely stunning from here!
This public park is located in the Malibu Country Club and offers a more traditional play area for kids. They have swings, slides, climbing structures – you name it! Admission is free but there’s an entrance fee to get into the country club.
Legacy Park is a beautiful place to enjoy the outdoors with your kids! There’s an amazing playground, picnic area and walking trails through Malibu Creek. You can also go on horseback riding or cycling here too so there are plenty of things for everyone to do at Legacy Park in Malibu!
Halfway down Nyes Place there is an entrance that leads you right onto the pier where all sorts of vendors offer food, ice cream sandwiches, cotton candy- pretty much anything your heart desires. You can also get some great views from here as well if you walk towards the end!
Boat Day Tours in Malibu
Kids can enjoy a guided tour of local waterways where they’ll learn about the area’s beautiful marine life. There are many options to consider for both morning and afternoon tours that include snacks, beverages and lots of fun activities! A great way to spend time outside exploring with your family! Malibu Museums & Libraries
The Getty Villa is an amazing location to visit. It’s a free museum where you can see ancient Greek and Roman art from all around the world! The kids will love seeing the amphitheater, which looks like it has been set up for some sort of show or game.
The Malibu Library is a hidden gem that you have to see when visiting the city. It’s right on PCH and offers some great views of the ocean from its third floor, but it also has an amazing view over Santa Monica Bay too!
Lisa Smith Wengler Center for the Arts
The Lisa Smith Wengler Center for the Arts is another Malibu gem. This place offers some amazing exhibits that change every so often, and it also has a library in case you need to wait out an afternoon with your kids!
Historic Adamson House and Malibu Lagoon Museum
Built in the 1920s, this house is famous for its role as a filming location of Alfred Hitchcock’s movie “The Birds.” The museum offers information on all things Malibu and also hosts events throughout the year. There are some great outdoor gardens here too so you can explore them with your family before heading to lunch!
Malibu Shopping
Visit the Malibu Country Mart for some shopping and dining. You’ll find stores like Ralph Lauren, Michael Kors, Nike and more! There are plenty of restaurants to choose from too.
