As parents, we’re constantly on the go, balancing work and family obligations while trying to squeeze in a little time for ourselves. It’s no wonder that by the end of the year we’re feeling run down and ready for a reset. Fortunately, the new year is a perfect time to recharge and recalibrate. Here are a few simple ways to reset in the new year and get back on track.
How can you set goals within the actual scope of what’s in your control? How can you reset rather than prepare? Here are ways your New Year’s Resolutions can pivot toward self-growth, simple organization, gentle productivity, and sustainable ways to reset for the year to come.
Ways to Reset in the New Year
Gentle Productivity Actions:
- Take a look at your daily routine, do you need to create one? Do you need to loosen up on the one you have already? Do you need to change things?
- Many of us are working from home so much, your computer is an ideal starting place:
- Clear out your email inboxes
- Unsubscribe from emails that aren’t serving you
- Backup your computer
- Organize your Dropbox/Google Drive
- Organize your files
- Focus on being in the moment and in the present, rather than in the future. What can I do now? Today?
Simple Organization Action:
- What’s that one space in your home that still isn’t right? Is it a drawer that drives you crazy and never closes? Is it a room that seems to be a catch-all? Is it a closet full of clothes you never wear? This is a great time to give that space some attention and care.
Create Attainable New Year Resolutions:
- Create goals for things within the scope of your control. Some examples;
- Spend 15 minutes per day reading
- Write 5 things down each week that I’m grateful for
- Send a card to one friend or family member per week
- Support is such a major part of resolutions! One option is to create a “family resolution” so that everyone is in on it!
Self Growth & Community:
- Community – we learned so much this year about the importance of giving back to our communities through voting, donating, giving, and supporting local businesses. Evaluate what community service really called to you the most? What act of service would you like to incorporate into 2020?
- Sharing Kindness – Check out ways to share kindness or download apps to help you stay in-the-know for current opportunities
Practical, Loving Health Resolutions in the New Year:
- Physical Health – Carve out a space for your physical health. Can you create a dedicated space in your home for exercise, yoga, or —-? This will help you prioritize your physical health even past 2021!
- Nourishment – Often weightloss goals are front and center, but 2021 may be the year for refreshing our perspective. Center around the ideas of eating healthy accompanied by gratitude for food on the table. Rather than counting calories, 2021 could be the year for counting all the new vegetables you’re trying each week! Or making sure you are eating and taking your vitamins.
- Self Care – Take a look at your selfcare routine. What would make you feel most at peace? Do you need to revive your skin care routine? Or do you need to implement 10 minutes of meditation per day? Maybe you’re considering seeking out mental health? There are levels of self care and each one can make a big difference, no matter how small.
However you transition into 2021, January is an ideal month to let go of the past, introspectively reflect, and form an inspiring, gentle, resolve for the new year!
