Kindness Club Project: Goal Wands
Kindness Club Project: Goal Wands
January Kindness Topic: Goals, Hopes, Dreams, & Resolutions
Kindness Club is for students so they can learn about kindness, love, empathy, gratitude, friendship, mindfulness, making goals, sharing, and more! Students also learn how to give kindness to themselves, friends, family, our school, the community, and to the world.
Each month, Kindness Club will be teaming up with Local Anchor to bring you a project that you can do at home or at school, with your family and friends. The goal is to create a conversation around kindness and giving back. Don’t miss a project, sign up here to stay in the loop.
Questions:
Talk about goals that you want to have as a family. What do you want to do and learn together? Another way to do this project is to have your child work on individual goals. What are some ways you want to grow and learn this year? Take turns drawing a picture and writing words or a sentence about how you want to reach your goal.
Story Time:
We recommend starting this project by reading together with the child(ren), the book Mae Among the Stars by Roda Ahmed
What you need for the Goal Wands:
Paper to write your goals on, crayons or markers, clear tape, 2 cut out stars, ribbon, glue stick or stapler.
How to make a Goal Wand:
Step 1: Cut out 2 stars. The stars should be about 3 inches high by 3 inches wide. You can use scrapbook paper or any color paper.
Step 2: Write your goals on a paper and decorate if you want.
Here are some ideas of things you can write on your Goal Wands:
- Learn something new each day
- Learn or start a new hobby or skill
- Read more books
- Eat healthy
- Be more grateful
- Spend more time in nature
- Be kind to myself and others
- Make new friends
- Exercise! Learn a new sport or skill
- Have fun! Smile! Love! Laugh! Dance!
Step 3: Roll the paper from corner to corner, diagonally across. Make sure you roll the paper super tight! Use a piece of tape in the middle of your wand to make sure it doesnāt come apart.
Step 4: Staple or glue your stars and ribbon at the top of your goal wand.
Now you have your very own goal wand! Show us your wand by snapping a photo and sharing on social media. Be sure to tag @SouthBayMommies and @WishKindnessClub on Instagram and @Local Anchor on Facebook!
Adrien Murphy loves teaching 2nd grade at WISH Charter Community School! Mrs. Murphy earned her BA degree and teaching credential from California State University Northridge. She decided to become a teacher because watching her mom teach inspired her to want to make a difference and help kids believe in themselves. She adores teaching kindness and mindfulness in her classroom and social skills during her after school Kindness Club. Her dream is to inspire kindness in the world and to help schools and communities start Kindness Clubs. Follow WISH Kindness Club on Instagram for more info.
