Local Spotlight: SOUFL Nutrition
This week we are excited to spotlight SOUFL Nutrition. If you are looking for someone to help you with your nutrition needs, Sarah Pruett Soufl, MS, RD can help!
Tell us about your company?
I am a Registered Dietitian Nutritionist who offers nutrition counseling for a range of concerns for families and individuals, including allergies, heart disease, diabetes, weight concerns, sports performance and more.
I use compassionate conversation to engage with children and adults about what motivates them to make changes, and offer evidence-based nutrition recommendations based on the person’s goals. I don’t advocate calorie-restricted diets, but instead teach children and adults how to key in to their internal hunger and satiety signals while using a gentle approach to nutrition and eating. This allows the person to live in a body that is weight-stable and feels good; it also creates a trusting relationship with food and family.
What inspired you to launch this business?
I have always cared about food, and have worked in the food realm—either as a server, a cook, a kitchen manager, a farmer, and an activist for local food systems—for over 10 years. My passion was engaging with people about food. I went back to graduate school to learn about food and nutrition from a scientific standpoint, which undergirds my passion for food on a social level. The question that guides me is: how do we nourish body, mind and spirit with food?
I want to help alleviate the anxiety and disconnection that people feel with food and their bodies by teaching, coaching, and encouraging people to have healing relationships with food that is based on evidence from the scientific literature and an individual’s personal experience.
What is one of your proudest moments?
One of my proudest moments was hearing my daughter say, eyes locked with mine, totally unprompted, that she loves me. She had just turned 2. It was a very moving experience to receive in words what I had seen her express in smiles and hugs up until that point.
What can one expect when working with you?
One can expect to receive a listening ear and a trained and educated response to your nutritional concerns. Your needs come first, and I hope to be a jumping off point for you in your life change to eating better.
Tell us a little about you:
I live in Redondo Beach near the esplanade with my husband and two children, who are 2 years old and almost 3 months old. My husband grew up here but I am a transplant from the east coast, although I have lived in OR and CA for the last 10 years and consider this my home. I love the South Bay!
What do you enjoy doing in the South Bay when you are not working?
When I’m not working I love to go to the beach! I also ride bikes, either on the road or the trail. My kids and I like to go to local farmers’ markets to get kettle corn, strawberries and fresh produce.
Do you give back to the community?
I plan to give back to the community as I grow my roots here. It would be great to partner with a local food charity and/or grow a movement for a community garden or food co-op business in the South Bay! If anyone is interested, please contact me.
