Lara Scott Brings Main Street and Mistletoe to Pages Bookstore in Manhattan Beach
Lara Scott, the voice keeping Southern Californians company on K-EARTH 101 every weekday, is celebrating her first novel, Main Street and Mistletoe, with a book launch event at Pages: a bookstore in Manhattan Beach on Thursday, November 12. Co-written with her writing partner Cori Linder, the sweet holiday story captures the feel of a Hallmark Christmas movie on the page, and Lara will talk about it live with her good friend Laura Stotland, founder of Local Anchor.

Lara Scott’s Book Launch at Pages in Manhattan Beach
Lara spends a lot of time in the South Bay, so it feels fitting that her book launch is happening in downtown Manhattan Beach. Pages: a bookstore, at 904 Manhattan Avenue, will host the evening.
The night opens with time to mix and mingle from 5:30 to 6:00 p.m. At 6:00 p.m., Laura Stotland, founder of Local Anchor, sits down with Lara for a conversation between two longtime friends. They will talk about the story behind the book, what it was like to write a novel after two decades behind the microphone, and why Los Angeles is at the heart of it.
Written as a love letter to Los Angeles after the 2025 wildfires, the book makes a cozy start to the holiday season and one of the more festive things to do in Manhattan Beach this November. From a Dare at 17 to the K-EARTH 101 Airwaves
Lara has been telling stories on the radio since she was 17. A friend dared her to call a local radio station and ask if they were hiring. They were, and the following weekend she was on the air for a six-hour shift.
She fell in love with the business right away, especially the chance to create community on the air. Today she plays music, gives away prizes, and keeps listeners company weekdays from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. on K-EARTH 101. In her words, she has the best job in the world.

How Main Street and Mistletoe Began
The idea for the novel arrived about two years ago while Lara was riding a cable car in San Francisco. She had loved writing as a kid and always scribbled stories in her notebooks, but work and raising her children had filled every moment for years.
This story would not let her go. So Lara teamed up with Cori Linder, her writing partner on the project, and the two decided to start writing and not stop until the book was finished.
Main Street and Mistletoe is Lara’s first novel, and she wrote it side by side with Linder. Together they set out to create something cozy and hopeful for the holidays.
What Main Street and Mistletoe Is About
Lara and Linder wanted the vibe of a Hallmark Christmas movie in a book. The result is a very sweet and hopeful story with a touch of nostalgia and magic.
When a long-lost letter sends single mom Chloe on a festive Santa-themed bar crawl through downtown Los Angeles, she encounters a stranger she hasn’t been able to stop thinking about. Think twinkling lights wrapped around palm trees, historic buildings decked out for the holidays, and that feeling in the air at Christmas when anything seems possible.
The Vow Behind the Book
Lara describes 2023 and 2024 as the hardest years of her life. Right at the end of 2024, just before that cable car ride, she made a vow to change her life in a tangible way in 2025. She wouldn’t just dream big and think positive. She would do something she could point to as an accomplishment.
The novel is that accomplishment. Lara says she doesn’t think she would have had the courage to try something new without the tough times. The losses she experienced showed her that forever is not promised, and that today is the time to go for your dreams.
Advice for Anyone Starting Something New
Lara has two pieces of advice for anyone starting their own path.
Hold Your Dream Close at First
Keep a new path or dream close until you feel solid with it. Comments like “You’re not being realistic” or “Do you know how many people fail when starting this?” can stop you before you begin. Lara notes that people often speak from a place of not wanting to see you get hurt, but it can really mess with your head.
Shrink the Task Until It Feels Manageable
For writers especially, the advice is to make the task small enough to start. Writing a book felt incredibly intimidating, so Lara told herself she only needed to write one sentence. Then another, and then another.
The first draft did not have to be anywhere near perfect. The goal was to get everything out of her head and onto paper quickly so she and Linder had something to work with. If you still feel blocked or scared, Lara says, what you’re starting with is still too big, so keep making it smaller.
What Community Means in the South Bay
Lara credits Local Anchor with bringing people together in the South Bay. For her, community feels like an extension of family. It means knowing people and their stories, seeing familiar faces, and knowing that friends and neighbors have your back and you have theirs. She calls the South Bay a very special place.
The Inspiration Behind It All
Lara’s children inspire everything she does. She wants them to have beautiful lives and to pursue everything that’s in their hearts.
