Community Spotlight: BreastfeedLA

BreastfeedLA is working towards establishing infant feeding equity. They strive to improve the health and well-being of infants by providing resources and support to new and expectant parents in the community and enabling them to make informed decisions about feeding their infant in the way they determine is safest, healthiest, and most fitting for their lives.

BreastfeedLA (formerly known as the Breastfeeding Task Force of Greater Los Angeles) formed in 1994 by a group of dedicated volunteers who wanted to make a difference in the breastfeeding rates in Los Angeles County.

BreastfeedLA is dedicated to improving the health and well being of infants and families through education, outreach, and advocacy to promote and support breast/chestfeeding.

Liberation Lactation Lounge (an initiative of BreastfeedLA) is proud to introduce Titties ‘N Tea, an innovative drop-in breastfeeding/infant feeding support group. Titties ‘N Tea is not just a support group; it’s a movement committed to rewriting the narrative surrounding Black parents and breastfeeding.

In light of the disproportionately high rates of infant and maternal mortality within Black communities, Titties ‘N Tea is committed to improving long-term health outcomes. Through expert-led discussions and informative sessions participants gain valuable insights into the benefits of breastfeeding while connecting, supporting each other, and creating lasting bonds that extend beyond the group sessions.

Titties ‘N Tea invites all Black breast/chestfeeding parents to come together, sip on some tea, and engage in candid conversations about all things breastfeeding and beyond. Whether you’re a new parent seeking guidance or a seasoned pro eager to share your experiences, Titties ‘N Tea welcomes you with open arms.

What inspired you to start this program?

We saw that Black parents in our community needed this program for support and resources.
