Community Spotlight: Pura Vita Redondo Beach
Tell us about Pura Vita Redondo Beach.
Pura Vita Redondo Beach is Pura Vita LA’s sister restaurant, founded in 2018. Pura Vita Redondo Beach opened its doors in February of 2021. Both restaurants provide the community with fresh, organic, vegan Italian food and drinks.
What inspired you to launch Pura Vita Redondo Beach?
My husband and I met the chef Tara Punzone in the 1990s while working for Club Med. Years later, we reunited, and she moved from NYC, where she was a well-known vegan chef, to West Hollywood to run another popular vegan chain called Real Food Daily. Her dream was to have her own restaurant, so early in 2018, she and my husband began looking for our first location.
Our drive is to bring delicious, healthy vegan cuisine to LA and the South Bay and provide high-quality food that incorporates all of the Italian staples.
What is one of your proudest moments?
My proudest moment was when Pura Vita LA won “Best New Business” in West Hollywood in 2019. It was such an incredible night. Since then, both restaurants have won many awards, including “Best Vegan Chef” in the country.
What can one expect when visiting your restaurant?
At Pura Vita Redondo Beach, you will expect amazing service, a beautiful ambiance, and delicious cuisine. We have a full bar and offer both indoor and outdoor dining. Now we have two private dining rooms, one for smaller groups of 10 and one for up to 24 people. Our outdoor patio is also fantastic for large groups, and we have parking. Brunch is served Friday through Sunday, and lunch and dinner are served Tuesday through Sunday.
Tell us a little about you.
Jay and Danielle Spangler co-own Pura Vita Redondo Beach and Pura Vita LA with the chef Tara Punzone. Jay and Danielle have been South Bay residents for over 25 years and raised three children here; one is an LA county lifeguard.
Do you give back to the community?
We give back to the community through donations and participate in fundraisers benefiting the local schools and philanthropic organizations such as Sandpipers and Grades of Green. Danielle is also part of the Redondo Beach Woman’s Club and the Redondo Rotary Club.
Anything else you would like us to include?
Pura Vita has become a local favorite among vegans and non-vegans alike. We worked hard through the pandemic to overcome many obstacles as a restaurant and still a young business. We are very proud of what we have created and hope to be in the South Bay for a very long time!
