A Recipe Born on the Road and Perfected in the South Bay
The story of Rizzo’s Pizzeria starts with a grandmother, a suitcase full of recipes, and a family that never stopped moving.
Sherrie Rossi, originally from Port Huron, Michigan, learned her craft back east and spent years honing her skills as she and her family relocated nearly every 2 years across the country, through Denver and through different corners of California, following her husband’s work. Wherever they landed, 2 things remained constant: family and good food.
When they finally put down roots in Southern California, Sherrie did what she had always dreamed of. She opened a restaurant. Her first location was at the Redondo Pier, operating under a different name. Then, in 1981, Rizzo’s Pizzeria was born with scratch dough and sauce made fresh every single day, in Torrance.
45 years and 4 children and 5 grandchildren later, that dream is still very much alive.

Three Generations, One Mission
Today, Rizzo’s Pizzeria is led by Kelsey Rossi, Sherrie’s granddaughter and a proud third-generation owner. Kelsey carries on the family tradition with the same commitment to quality and community that made the restaurant a South Bay staple in the first place.
“My grandmother yearned for a place where she could both generate an income and keep an eye on her high school aged children,” Kelsey shared. Rizzo’s became exactly that and so much more. Sherrie hired her own kids, then their friends. The restaurant became a safe haven for local teens to earn their first paychecks and learn what it means to work hard and take pride in what you do.
That spirit of investing in young people has never left the building.

More Than Pizza: A Community Pillar with Pizza Powers
From the beginning, Sherrie believed that a restaurant could be a force for good. She partnered with local schools to support students and their families. She offered generous discounts to first responders. She promised free delivery and kept that promise for decades. She created a family pack deal designed so that any family, regardless of budget, could enjoy a night out.
“Nobody goes hungry on our watch” and “We use our pizza powers for good” are 2 phrases Sherrie lived by that still guide Rizzo’s today.
For Kelsey, community is not a marketing strategy. It is a core belief. “We are only as good as our community,” she says. “We have to participate, give back, and continue to grow with the families in the South Bay so we all thrive together.”
The South Bay has taken that spirit to heart. Generations of families have celebrated milestones at Rizzo’s: birthdays, graduations, first dates, game nights. Former teenage employees have come back as adults, bringing their own kids. That kind of loyalty is not built by accident.
What’s on the Menu
Rizzo’s offers a full Italian menu built around the same from-scratch philosophy Sherrie established in 1981. Hand-stretched pies are the star, but the menu stretches well beyond pizza. Guests can order pasta, salads, subs, and wings, plus catering for any occasion.
The family pack deal remains a fan favorite, delivering real value for groups of any size. Free delivery is still on the table, honoring a promise that has now been kept for 4 and a half decades.
Whether it is a Tuesday night dinner or a graduation celebration, Rizzo’s has the food and the space to make it memorable. The restaurant also offers an event space for private gatherings, a perfect fit for upcoming graduation parties, summer celebrations, and more.
